To begin talking about this important topic, first its important for me to share a bit about my personal experience and what I’ve learned after attending international events on the past few months. In English, it’s crucial to express yourself with a lot of confidence, ensuring you pronounce each word correctly and to use colloquial and slang expressions to demonstrate your knowledge in this language. This usually translates to creating stronger and better connections with your peers.During international events, there’s always a need to ask for more information or clarifications. Therefore, we want to provide you with many more expressions and words that will surely be useful, such as saying “Could you please repeat that?” or “Can you explain more about…?” This ensures you understand what is being discussed or presented. It’s imperative not to let a sentence you don’t understand slip by. Simply wait for the other person to finish expressing their viewpoint and politely ask if they can clarify or rephrase what they just said. This communicates to the other person that you are indeed listening and genuinely want to continue engaging with the conversation or discussion.Cordiality is a tremendously important tool for generating empathy or closeness with someone you don’t know. When you are respectful, you immediately make the other person not see you as a threat but rather someone they want to share with and naturally promote conversation with.

After speaking with these attendees, you’ll have the opportunity to exchange contact information such as email addresses or phone numbers to continue cultivating these relationships, this is wihtout a doubt the most important part of it, that’s your opportunity to cash in those relationships and improve your networking abilities. During any type of interaction or communication, it’s important to show interest in what the other person is saying. For example, if I’m at a large event and someone approaches me to ask about my position and my company, it would be ideal to have a short and interesting responde.

Don’t forget to return the question to avoid the conversation appearing one-sided or an interrogatory. It’s also a great idea to show your personality and avoid sounding like a robot, people are easier to connect with when they can relate somehow with you. Looking back, this has also helped me feel more confident, creating better professional connections, as these are key tools for establishing positive and successful relationships in an increasingly globalized world that heavily relies on the English language.
